A significant fire erupted at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj today, January 19, 2025, around 4:00 PM, following the explosion of two gas cylinders in Sector 19.
The blaze resulted in the destruction of several tents, including the Gita Press tent, and spread to approximately ten nearby tents.
Firefighters promptly responded and successfully extinguished the flames. Notably, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Earlier in the day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted an aerial survey of the Maha Kumbh area.
The 45-day Maha Kumbh 2025 commenced on Paush Purnima, January 13, and is expected to attract around 400 million visitors over six weeks.
To manage the event, a temporary city spanning 4,000 hectares has been established, featuring 150,000 tents and numerous amenities. Security measures include over 50,000 personnel, temporary police stations, and floating 'water police stations.' Fire safety is a priority, with equipment in every tent, 351 firefighting vehicles, and 2,000 trained personnel on standby.
Despite the incident, the Kumbh Mela continues with enhanced safety protocols to ensure the well-being of all attendees.
